Fiscal Counter (Windows checkout)
Fiscal Counter turns a Windows PC with a barcode scanner and a receipt printer into a fast supermarket checkout. Every sale is a normal Fiscal invoice, posted the moment you finish it.
Fiscal Counter is a separate Windows program that works with your Fiscal company over the internet. It loads your items, prices and customers once when it starts, so scanning stays fast even with a large catalogue, and posts each sale to Fiscal as an invoice. Invoices from the counter follow the same rules as the invoice page: totals, VAT, stock, accounts and e-invoicing are the same.
Fiscal Counter is different from the point of sale: the point of sale runs in the browser and is made for restaurants and cafés (tables, menus, kitchen screens), while Fiscal Counter is made for checkouts where items are scanned.
What you need
- A PC with 64-bit Windows 10 or 11. Nothing else has to be installed: unzip the Fiscal Counter package into a folder and run
FiscalCounter.exe. Printing with the Fiscal template uses Microsoft Edge WebView2, which is part of Windows 11 (on older Windows 10 PCs, install it from Microsoft). - A barcode scanner that types like a keyboard and ends with Enter (most do), and a receipt printer installed in Windows.
- For each cashier, a Fiscal user whose group has these rights (see User groups and rights):
- Counter App (View) to sign in, and Invoice Create to post sales;
- Invoice Print to print with a report file, and Invoice View for the sales history;
- Sales Return Create for returns, and Customer Credit Refund Create to pay money back;
- Counter Reports (View) for the reports.
- The user needs access to the counter's branch and warehouse (see Branch and warehouse access).
Sign in and set up the counter
- Start Fiscal Counter and sign in with your Fiscal email and password. Server is the Fiscal API address; leave it as it is unless your partner tells you otherwise.
- The first time, the Counter settings window opens. Choose:
- the Branch and the Warehouse the stock goes out from;
- the Walk-in customer, the customer of a new cash sale (type a name, code or phone and press Enter);
- the Default payment mode for cash sales and the Default payment term for credit sales.
- Set up printing (see below) and click Save.
The settings are kept on this PC for this Windows user. Change them later with Settings in the top bar.
PIN sign-in
So that cashiers don't type their email and password at every shift change, click Turn on PIN sign-in for this PC in Settings. The sign-in screen then asks Who is selling?: the cashier taps their name and types a 4-digit PIN. Each user sets their own PIN with My PIN after signing in with their email (it is the same PIN as at the point of sale). Email and password always work too.
Selling
The scan box at the top of the screen is always ready: anything a scanner types goes into it.
- Scan a barcode, or type an item code and press Enter. The item is added with quantity 1. Scanning the same item again adds 1 to its line instead of adding a new line. A unit's own barcode, such as a carton's, sells that unit.
- Type
3*before the code (for example3*6281234567890) to sell 3. - With the scan box empty, + and - change the quantity of the selected (or last) line.
- Search (F2) finds an item by name, code, Arabic name, barcode, part number or brand.
- Change a line's unit, quantity, rate or discount in the grid. Delete removes the selected line. In stock shows what the counter's warehouse holds; a line with more than that is shown in red.
- History (F6) shows the item's last sales, to this customer and to others, with the rate and net rate. Stock (Shift+F6) shows the item's stock in every warehouse you have access to, including other branches. Both work from the item search too.
On the right of the screen:
- Customer (F3): Change picks a customer; Walk-in goes back to the walk-in customer.
- Cash sale or Credit sale (credit needs a registered customer), with the payment mode or term, the salesman, a reference, a bill discount (amount or %) and a note.
- The totals, the round-off, and for a cash sale Tendered (F4) and the Change to give back.
Post the sale
- Post and print (F12) posts the invoice and prints it. Post, no print (F11) posts without printing.
- The last sale's number and change stay on screen, and a new sale starts.
- If the connection drops while posting, the sale stays on screen: post it again when the connection is back. If Fiscal had already saved it, you get the same invoice back; it is never posted twice.
- New sale (Ctrl+N) clears the screen. Refresh data (F5) reloads items, prices, customers and stock, for example after new items were added in Fiscal.
Weighing-scale labels
Labels printed by a weighing scale carry the item code and the weight or price inside the barcode. Turn on Read weighing-scale barcodes in Settings and enter how your scale builds the label: the Prefixes (for example 20 to 29), the number of Item code digits and Value digits, the Decimals in value, and whether the value is the weight (the quantity in the item's base unit) or the price. Scan a label into Test a label to check it. Each scanned label is its own line on the receipt.
Printing
A counter can print on up to three printers, for example the customer's receipt on the thermal printer and a copy on an A4 printer in the office. In Settings, click Printer 1, Printer 2 or Printer 3 and set for each:
- a Name such as Receipt or Office copy;
- how it prints: Fiscal template (same as the web) with the invoice template to use (see Print templates), an RDLC report (.rdlc, thermal) (a built-in 80 mm receipt is included; Roll paper cuts the paper to the length of the receipt), or Off (not used);
- the Windows Printer and the number of Copies.
When more than one printer is on, a small window asks which printers to use each time, with all of them ticked: untick the ones you don't need and press Enter, or press Esc to post without printing. Show a preview before printing shows each print first.
To design your own RDLC receipt, use Save built-in template (.rdlc)…, Save data schema (.xsd)… and Save sample data (.xml)…, edit the copy in Visual Studio or Report Builder, and choose it as the report file.
Today's sales and returns
- Today's sales (F7) lists your sales of a day: Reprint or Preview a receipt, or start a return.
- Return (F8): type the invoice number or scan the QR code on the receipt, enter the Return qty of each line (or Return everything) and the Reason. Choose Pay the money back now or Credit the customer's account, and Post return (F12). The return is a credit note in Fiscal, and paying back records a customer refund. Only invoices of the counter's branch can be returned.
Reports
Reports (F9) shows the counter's branch for a period you choose: Daily Sales Summary, Sales by Item, Sales by Customer, Invoice List, Sales Returns, Payments Received, Customer Balances, Customer Aging, Customer Statement, Output Tax Summary, Sales Return Tax, Tax by Customer and Output Tax Details. Each one can be printed or exported to CSV. They are the same figures as the Sales reports and Tax reports and the VAT return in Fiscal.
