Journal entries

A journal entry (journal voucher) posts debits and credits directly to accounts. Use it for what no other document covers: accruals, corrections, reclassifications and opening balances.

Open Financial›Journal Entries, or use + › Journal Voucher.

Sales, purchases, payments and stock documents post their own journals. Don't repeat them with a journal entry, and don't use one to change what such a document posted: edit or cancel the document instead.

Post a journal entry

  1. Click New.
  2. Under Voucher Details, set the Date, the Branch and the Currency, and optionally a Reference # and a Project.
  3. Write the Narration: what the entry is for. It appears in the ledgers.
  4. Under Account Lines, choose an account and enter its Debit or Credit. Each line shows the account's current balance. When you choose the next account, the balancing amount is filled in on the opposite side for you.
  5. Add more lines with Add Line, and a note per line if useful.
  6. When Total Debit equals Total Credit, the grid shows Balanced. Click Save & Post, or Save as Draft.

An entry that doesn't balance can't be posted. The footer shows the Difference.
