Voucher types and numbering
Every kind of document in Fiscal, such as an invoice, a bill or a journal entry, is a voucher type. The voucher type decides how its documents are numbered and which extra fields they have.
Open Settings›Voucher Type. Fiscal comes with one voucher type for each kind of document. Select one to change it. The built-in types are marked User Defined = off and can't be deleted.
Document numbers
Each new document gets the next number of its voucher type. The full number is made of:

| Suffix Length | How many digits the running number has. It is padded with zeros. | 5 gives 00042 |
With these settings the 42nd invoice is numbered INV-26-00042.
- Numbers run on from the highest number already used for that voucher type. They don't start again at 1 in a new year. With
$YYin the prefix, the year part still changes, so numbers stay easy to read. - Fiscal gives the number when the document is saved, not when you open the form.
- A slash (
/) in the prefix of an item document, such as an invoice or a bill, is changed to a dash (-).
Change the prefix before you start entering real documents. Changing it later is allowed, but documents before and after the change will have different formats.
Custom fields
Custom fields add your own boxes to a kind of document, for example LPO number on invoices or Vehicle number on delivery notes.
- Select the voucher type and click Add Field under Custom Fields.
- Enter a Field Key (a short internal name without spaces, for example
LpoNo) and the Label users see. - Choose the Data Type:
String(text),Number,Date,Time,Boolean(yes/no) orList. For a list, enter the choices in Options / Data, separated by commas, for exampleOption1,Option2. - Enter a Default Value if you want one, and tick Optional if the field may be left empty.
- Click Save. The field appears on new and edited documents of this type.
